Expected Outcomes:

Course Objectives:

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Recognise the unique presentations of neurodivergence, such as ADHD and ASD, in women and understand the influence of

    hormonal changes.

  • Differentiate complex trauma (cPTSD) from borderline personality disorder (BPD) and apply trauma-informed practices to your approach.

  • Manage common mental health conditions in women, including eating disorders, using evidence-based interventions.

  • Understand the role of hormonal changes in mental health and provide effective support for conditions influenced by these factors, like

    PMDD and ADHD.

  • Evaluate and suggest improvements to service delivery frameworks that better support women

    with neurodivergent and mental health needs.

  • Identify key characteristics of ADHD, ASD, and co occurring conditions in women, including the influence of hormonal changes on mental health.

  • Differentiate between complex trauma (cPTSD) and borderline personality disorder (BPD) diagnoses by accurately applying trauma informed approaches to case examples.

  • Summarise early intervention and multi family therapy evidence-based practices in managing eating disorders in female patients.

  • Describe the impact of hormonal changes on mental health conditions such as ADHD and PMDD.

  • List practical approaches to support women experiencing symptoms with hormonal changes on mental health conditions.

  • Evaluate neurodivergent and mental health service delivery frameworks.

  • Identify improvements to better support neurodivergent women and address their unique mental health needs.

  3. Module 1: ADHD & ASD in Women

    This module provides an in-depth look at ADHD and ASD presentations in women, conditions that have historically been underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed in female patients. 

  4. Module 2: Trauma and Mental Health Disorders

    This module delves into trauma and mental health disorders, focusing on complex PTSD (cPTSD), co-occurring Autism and ADHD in women, and the diagnostic complexities between cPTSD and Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD).

  5. Module 3: Eating Disorders and Early Intervention.

    This module explores eating disorders, with a focus on early intervention strategies and the connection between trauma and disordered eating. Emphasising approaches such as multi-family therapy for Anorexia Nervosa, this module provides practical insights into effective early intervention.

  6. Module 4: Hormones and Women's Mental Health.

    This module examines the impact of hormones on women’s mental health, with a focus on Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) and hormonal influences on mood and ADHD. Given the significant role hormones play in mood regulation and mental health, understanding these interactions is essential for providing comprehensive care.

  7. Module 5: Neurodivergence and Service Delivery.

    This module addresses neurodivergence in women and examines the evolution of service delivery to better meet their needs. Women who are neurodivergent often face unique challenges in accessing and navigating healthcare services tailored to their experiences.
